The K1 shows a «key» error for the print head or bed (2000, 2001, 3002, 2564, 2565)
Guide based on the manufacturer's official documentation; usi3d has not yet verified it on a machine.
Technology: FDM · Brand: Creality · Symptoms: The printer shows an error code or message, Temperature error (MINTEMP, MAXTEMP, thermal runaway), The hotend or the bed does not heat · Updated on 9 October 2026
Symptom
The K1, K1C or K1 Max screen shows an «Error, key: …» window and the printer stops or does not finish booting. The codes in this sheet: 2000 and 2001 (shown as «Unknown exception»), 3002 (communication fault with the print head), 2564 (the nozzle does not heat as expected) and 2565 (the bed does not heat as expected).
Likely causes, from most to least likely
- The cable between the mainboard and the print head board is loose, badly seated or damaged: this is the first thing Creality points to for 2000, 2001 and 3002.
- For 2564, the ceramic heater or thermistor cable is loose on the print head board, the thermistor has slipped out of place, or the ceramic heater is cracked or has a broken solder joint.
- For 2565, the bed wiring is loose or the solder joint of the bed power supply has come off.
- For 3002, the screen firmware version does not match the board version, or connectors J51 (print head cable) or J11 (bed adapter) on the mainboard are loose.
- An internal software or mainboard fault, which can only be traced with the printer log.
Checks to tell which one it is
- Note down the exact number after «key»: each code points to a different area (print head communication, nozzle heating or bed heating).
- Note when it appears: at power-on, stuck on the boot screen, or in the middle of a print, which points to a cable that moves with the print head.
- Preheat and watch the temperature: if it stays flat with the heater on, it is a heating problem (2564 or 2565), not a communication one.
- Think back to whether the error started right after a firmware update: that is typical of 3002.
Before you start
Before taking anything apart, cleaning or adjusting it, switch the printer off and unplug it, unless a step says otherwise, and do not touch the nozzle, the heater block or the bed until they have cooled down. If in any doubt about electricity, heat or moving parts, stop and ask a professional.
Step-by-step fix
Restart and update the firmware
Switch the printer off, wait a few seconds and switch it on again. If the error appeared after an update, or it is 3002, install the latest official firmware so that the screen and the boards run matching versions.
Check: The printer boots without the error window and completes the self-check.
If that does not fix it: Check the print head cable (next step).
Reseat the print head cable
Switch off and unplug the printer and wait for the print head to cool down. Remove the print head cover, then unplug and firmly reconnect the connection cable of the print head board. For 3002, Creality also says to check connectors J51 (print head cable) and J11 (bed adapter) on the mainboard.
Check: 2000, 2001 or 3002 do not come back at power-on or when the print head moves.
If that does not fix it: If it comes back, replace the print head connection cable: that is Creality's fix for 2000.
Check the nozzle heater and thermistor (2564)
With the printer switched off, unplugged and cold, open the print head cover and check that the ceramic heater and thermistor cables are firmly seated on the print head board and that the thermistor is fully inserted. Remove the silicone sock and look for cracks in the ceramic heater or broken solder joints on its wires.
Check: When preheating, the nozzle temperature rises steadily to the target.
If that does not fix it: If the thermistor will not stay in place or the heater is damaged, the hotend kit must be replaced; if the printer is under warranty, contact Creality support.
Check the bed wiring (2565)
Switch off and unplug the printer. Reseat the bed wiring connectors and check whether the solder joint of the bed power cable has come off.
Check: The bed temperature rises when you preheat it.
If that does not fix it: If the solder joint has come off or the bed still does not heat, contact Creality support.
Export the log
For 2000 and 2001, Creality asks you to export the printer log and send it to them for analysis. If the error appears during boot and you cannot use the screen, follow their procedure to skip the startup self-check so you can export it.
Check: You have the log exported and the error code written down.
If that does not fix it: Contact Creality support with the code, when it appears and the log.
Prevention
- Keep the firmware on the latest official version: mismatched versions between screen and boards cause 3002.
- Whenever you open the print head or replace the hotend, firmly reseat the heater, thermistor and print head cable connectors before closing the cover.
- If an error keeps coming back, note the code and export the log: that is what Creality support asks for.
