Ender 3 V3 SE: nozzle or bed temperature too low or too high, or it restarts while heating
Guide based on the manufacturer's official documentation; usi3d has not yet verified it on a machine.
Technology: FDM · Brand: Creality · Symptoms: Temperature error (MINTEMP, MAXTEMP, thermal runaway), The hotend or the bed does not heat, The printer shows an error code or message, Frozen screen or restarts · Updated on 10 October 2026
Symptom
The Ender 3 V3 SE reports that the nozzle or bed temperature is too low (it does not reach the set temperature in time) or too high (usually right after switching on), the temperature fluctuates a lot, the unexpected stoppage message appears or the printer restarts while heating or when it goes to level.
Likely causes, from most to least likely
- Too low: while heating, the temperature rises but does not reach the set value within the expected time.
- Too high at start-up: the nozzle or bed thermistor is open, short-circuited or badly connected.
- Large fluctuations: the factory PID does not suit your room temperature or there is not enough heating power.
- Restarts while heating or leveling: the voltage selector is not set to your country's mains voltage, or the power supply and mainboard connections are loose.
- Unexpected stoppage message: a power cut, a resumed print or a restart; sometimes a loose power cable.
Checks to tell which one it is
- Note the exact message: nozzle or bed, and too low or too high.
- Heat the nozzle alone, then the bed alone, then both together, for more than 20 minutes each time, and see whether it restarts and with which one.
Before you start
Before taking anything apart, cleaning or adjusting it, switch the printer off and unplug it, unless a step says otherwise, and do not touch the nozzle, the heater block or the bed until they have cooled down. If in any doubt about electricity, heat or moving parts, stop and ask a professional.
Step-by-step fix
Too high: the thermistor
Restart and run the automatic PID in «Control» → «Temperature» → «Auto PID». If the message persists, switch off, unplug and reconnect the nozzle or bed thermistor cable, depending on the message.
Check: The message no longer appears at start-up.
If that does not fix it: Contact Creality support.
Fluctuating temperature: automatic PID
Run the automatic PID for the nozzle and the bed in «Control» → «Temperature» → «Auto PID», in the room where you print.
Check: The temperature stays stable once it reaches the set value.
If that does not fix it: There may not be enough heating power: see the last step.
Restarts: voltage selector and connections
Before switching on, set the power supply voltage selector to your country's mains voltage. If it still restarts, switch off, unplug, remove the base plate and look for loose connections between the power supply and the mainboard.
Check: It no longer restarts when heating or leveling.
If that does not fix it: Try heating one part at a time (next step).
Heat one part at a time and check the power
Heat the nozzle alone, the bed alone and both together for more than 20 minutes, and note with which one it restarts or stops. If the unexpected stoppage message appears, check that the power cable is fully plugged in and try another socket.
Check: You know which part causes the fault, or it stops failing on the other socket.
If that does not fix it: With that information, contact Creality support.
Measure the heating voltage (only if you know how)
If the temperature does not get there or power is lacking, Creality suggests measuring with a multimeter the voltage at the nozzle or bed heating output on the mainboard while it heats. It is a measurement with the printer on: only do it if you can measure safely, on the low-voltage DC side, without touching the power supply or the switch area. Otherwise, skip it.
Check: The voltage is normal and stable while heating.
If that does not fix it: If it is not, or you cannot measure it, contact Creality support with what you have seen.
Prevention
- Set the voltage selector to your country's mains voltage before the first power-up.
- Switch off and unplug before touching cables or connectors.
- If the temperature fluctuates, run the automatic PID again in the room where you print.
