E2: in duplication or mirror mode one head does not stick or scrapes, or the two heads are not aligned
Guide based on the manufacturer's official documentation; usi3d has not yet verified it on a machine.
Technology: FDM · Brand: Raise3D · Symptoms: Uneven first layer (thin and thick areas), Unlevel or warped bed, The multi-material system fails (does not load, cut or jams) · Updated on 9 October 2026
Symptom
On a Raise3D E2 (IDEX), when printing in Duplication or Mirror mode one of the two parts does not stick or its nozzle scrapes the bed; or in two-material prints the right head is offset from the left one; or automatic levelling reports a flatness above 0.25.
Likely causes, from most to least likely
- The two nozzles are not at the same height: according to Raise3D, for duplication or mirror mode the difference between their offset values should be 0.10 mm or less.
- The shared X axis is not level.
- The bed base is not level: flatness above 0.25 in the levelling report.
- The XY offset of the right head relative to the left one has not been calibrated.
- Wrong Z Probe Offset; note: changing the left hot end value also changes the right one, but not the other way round.
- Filament residue on the nozzles during calibration, distorting the data.
Checks to tell which one it is
- In Maintenance → Offset Calibration → Offset Settings, compare the left and right nozzle values.
- Run levelling (Utility → Leveling → Simple Mode) and check the flatness and the 2D report: yellow is higher and blue is lower.
- With the motors unlocked and a feeler gauge under both nozzles, lower Z in 0.1 mm steps and see which nozzle touches the gauge first.
Before you start
Before taking anything apart, cleaning or adjusting it, switch the printer off and unplug it, unless a step says otherwise, and do not touch the nozzle, the heater block or the bed until they have cooled down. If in any doubt about electricity, heat or moving parts, stop and ask a professional.
Step-by-step fix
Level the X axis
Press the gear icon (Setting) → Machine → Maintenance → Make X-Axis Level Up and Start. The X gantry rises until it touches the top bar and levels itself; the grinding noise during the process is normal.
Check: The process finishes and the X axis is level.
If that does not fix it: Level the bed (next step).
Level the bed
With the bed clean, go to Utility → Leveling → Simple Mode (9-point automatic levelling). If flatness is above 0.25, disable the motors, check the 2D report, take out the print surface and turn the two screws of the affected area with a 2.5 mm hex key: anticlockwise raises the base and clockwise lowers it; one full turn is 0.5 mm. Repeat until flatness is 0.25 or less.
Check: The levelling report shows a flatness of 0.25 or less.
If that does not fix it: Calibrate the nozzle heights (next step).
Calibrate and compare heights
In Maintenance → Offset Calibration, check that the requirements on screen are met, press Start, complete steps 1 to 4 of the wizard and open Offset Settings.
Check: The difference between the left and right nozzle is 0.10 mm or less.
If that does not fix it: If it is larger, match the hot end heights (next step).
Match the hot end heights
Unload the filament (Utilities → Filament Loader → Unload), let the nozzles cool and remove residue. Home All, raise Z 2 mm, unlock the motors, centre the bed and heads and place the gauge underneath. Lower Z in 0.1 mm steps until one nozzle touches. With the 2 mm hex key, loosen that hot end's set screw, lower it onto the gauge and tighten; raise 2 mm, move the other head to the same spot, lower 2 mm and do the same.
Check: Repeating the calibration of both nozzles, with no filament, the difference is 0.10 mm or less.
If that does not fix it: If they are hard to match, push both hot ends fully up by loosening their set screws, tighten them and start again from that reference.
XY offset and Z probe offset
To align the right head with the left one, go into Offset Calibration and complete the last two steps of the wizard (XY offset). If you need to correct the height by hand, go to Setting → Machine → More Settings → Hardware → Z Probe Offset, choose the nozzle and type the value: remember that changing the left one also changes the right one.
Check: Parts from both heads line up and have the same first layer.
If that does not fix it: Contact Raise3D support with photos of the levelling report and Offset Settings.
Prevention
- Level the X axis and the bed before calibrating the offsets.
- Calibrate with no filament loaded and with clean, cold nozzles.
- Keep bed flatness at 0.25 or less, especially for complex models.
