QIDI Plus4: filament jams in the extruder or the hotend
Guide based on the manufacturer's official documentation; usi3d has not yet verified it on a machine.
Technology: FDM · Brand: Qidi · Symptoms: Clogged nozzle or hotend, No filament comes out · Updated on 9 October 2026
Symptom
On the Plus4 the filament stops feeding or does not come out of the nozzle: it is stuck inside the extruder or in the hotend.
Likely causes, from most to least likely
- Filament stuck inside the extruder, between its gears.
- Filament jammed in the hotend or the nozzle.
- Hotend or nozzle worn after long use: QIDI notes they can fail and need replacing.
Checks to tell which one it is
- Cut the filament with the cutter and check whether the piece inside moves or is stuck.
- Remove the hotend: if the filament is still stuck above, the jam is in the extruder; if it is in the hotend, it comes out with it.
Before you start
Before taking anything apart, cleaning or adjusting it, switch the printer off and unplug it, unless a step says otherwise, and do not touch the nozzle, the heater block or the bed until they have cooled down. If in any doubt about electricity, heat or moving parts, stop and ask a professional.
Step-by-step fix
Remove the hotend
With the hotend cool, cut the filament with the cutter, take the hotend cables out of their routing clip (without unplugging them), remove the two hotend screws and take it out.
Check: The hotend is out and you can see where the filament is.
If that does not fix it: Continue with the relevant step.
Clean the hotend
Wearing heat-resistant gloves, heat the nozzle from the screen and, once at temperature, remove the jammed filament. Refit the hotend, tighten its two screws, tidy the cables and put the front cover back.
Check: When loading, filament comes out continuously.
If that does not fix it: If the jam is in the extruder, go to the next step.
Clean the extruder
With the hotend out and the printer switched off, remove the two screws holding the extruder and take it out. Remove its four screws, open it, remove the stuck filament and reassemble it.
Check: The filament passes through the extruder without catching.
If that does not fix it: If the hotend or nozzle is worn, replace it following QIDI's video; the nozzle is tightened hot to 1.5-2.0 N·m.
Prevention
- When changing the nozzle, heat it to the filament's temperature and wear heat-resistant gloves.
- Check the hotend thermal paste: according to QIDI, high-temperature printing wears it faster.
- With the printer off, blow dust off the nozzle, part cooling, circulation and bottom fans with compressed air.
