Saturn 4 Ultra 16K: cold resin or «Resin heating anomaly» message (heated resin tank)
Guide based on the manufacturer's official documentation; usi3d has not yet verified it on a machine.
Technology: Resin · Brand: Elegoo · Symptoms: The resin print does not stick to the build plate, The resin print's supports fail, The printer shows an error code or message, Temperature error (MINTEMP, MAXTEMP, thermal runaway) · Updated on 10 October 2026
Symptom
In a cold room, the Saturn 4 Ultra 16K fails its prints: the base does not stick to the build plate or the supports come away from the model. Or, when a print starts, it reports «Resin heating anomaly» and the resin tank does not heat.
Likely causes, from most to least likely
- Cold resin: it thickens and flows less well; Elegoo puts the ideal room temperature at 25 to 35 °C, and below 20 °C prints may fail.
- Resin tank heating is not turned on.
- «Resin heating anomaly»: the tank's contact tips are bent, worn or loose, or the film covers them or presses on them with a wrinkle.
- Poor contact between the adapter board and the contacts, or oxidised or dirty contacts.
- An open or damaged circuit in the resin tank or in the heating adapter board.
Checks to tell which one it is
- Check the room temperature: below 20 °C, turn on resin tank heating.
- With the printer off, look at the tank's contact tips: bent, worn, loose or covered by the film.
Before you start
Uncured resin irritates skin and eyes: wear nitrile gloves and safety glasses, ventilate the room and do not look at the UV light. Before taking anything apart or cleaning it, switch the printer off and unplug it, unless a step says otherwise. If in any doubt, stop and ask a professional.
Step-by-step fix
Turn on resin tank heating
Pour the resin between the minimum and maximum marks. In «Settings» → «Accessibility features» turn on «Tank Heating»: before printing, the tank heats up to 30 °C (it takes about 30 minutes). With «Resin preheating», the tank holds 30 °C for 24 hours.
Check: The print starts with the tank at 30 °C and the model forms.
If that does not fix it: If it reports «Resin heating anomaly», check the contacts (step 3).
If it still fails because of the cold
Clean out any cured resin left in the tank after the failure. You can warm the bottle beforehand in water at about 60 °C so the resin reaches 30-40 °C. In the slicer, Elegoo suggests adding 5 s to the bottom layer exposure and 0.5 s to the normal exposure, increasing the wait before cure and the lift distance, and lowering the lift and retract speeds.
Check: The base sticks and the supports hold.
If that does not fix it: Check the leveling and the tank film.
Check the contact tips
With the printer off, wearing gloves and safety glasses, with ventilation, look at the tank's contact tips. If they are slightly bent, carefully straighten them with a suitable tool; if they are badly deformed, or worn (measure their length with calipers), replace the resin tank.
Check: The tips are straight and intact.
If that does not fix it: Check the film (next step).
Film covering the contacts
If the film covers the contact tips, pierce a hole right above them. If the film is wrinkled or shifted and presses on them, refit it or replace it.
Check: The tips are clear.
If that does not fix it: Check the contact connection (next step).
Contact connection and cleaning
With the printer off, check the connection between the adapter board and the contacts and reseat it firmly. If there is oxidation, lightly sand the area and apply conductive paste. Clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth and alcohol and wait for it to evaporate before switching on.
Check: When you print again, the tank heats without the message.
If that does not fix it: Check the continuity (next step).
Circuit continuity
With the printer off, set the multimeter to continuity and test the circuit of the tank's contact tips and that of the heating adapter board. If it does not beep and shows «OL», that circuit is open: replace the resin tank or the adapter board, whichever it is (Elegoo has a guide to replace the board).
Check: Both circuits show continuity.
If that does not fix it: Go to the last step.
Information for Elegoo support
If the message persists, contact Elegoo support with the model, a photo of the message, photos of the contact tips, the contacts and the adapter board, the steps you took and the result of each one.
Check: Support tells you which part to replace.
If that does not fix it: Follow their instructions.
Prevention
- Below 20 °C, print with resin tank heating turned on.
- When replacing the film, pierce the two heating points so the contacts are clear.
- Handle the resin tank and the resin with gloves, safety glasses and ventilation.
