X1: Micro Lidar alerts (dirty lens, failed calibration, nozzle height) and first layer inspection
Guide based on the manufacturer's official documentation; usi3d has not yet verified it on a machine.
Technology: FDM · Brand: Bambu Lab · Symptoms: Uneven first layer (thin and thick areas), The printer shows an error code or message · Updated on 9 October 2026
Symptom
The X1, X1 Carbon or X1E shows Micro Lidar alerts such as «Micro Lidar lens seems to be dirty» (0C00-0100-0001-0004), «Failed to calibrate Micro Lidar» (0C00-0100-0001-000B) or «Nozzle height seems to be too low» (0C00-0200-0002-0004), or first layer inspection reports possible defects.
Likely causes, from most to least likely
- Dirty lidar camera lens: dust, grease or fumes from printing ABS for long periods.
- Calibration board (on the right of the bed) dirty, damaged or covered.
- Toolhead USB-C cable making poor contact.
- Nozzle worn or bent after a crash, or replaced without recalibrating.
- Transparent, glittery or highly reflective filament: the laser cannot measure it well.
- Real but minor first layer defects that are not serious enough to pause the print.
Checks to tell which one it is
- Look at the green area of the calibration board on the right of the bed: it must be clean and intact.
- Check the nozzle tip for heavy wear, bending or stuck residue.
- When it reports possible first layer defects, check the layer by eye or through the camera.
Before you start
Before taking anything apart, cleaning or adjusting it, switch the printer off and unplug it, unless a step says otherwise, and do not touch the nozzle, the heater block or the bed until they have cooled down. If in any doubt about electricity, heat or moving parts, stop and ask a professional.
Step-by-step fix
Clean the lidar lens
Switch the printer off and clean the module's camera lens, to the left of the lidar light, with isopropyl alcohol and a microfibre cloth or cotton bud.
Check: When you start a print, the alert does not appear.
If that does not fix it: If it persists after several cleanings, contact Bambu Lab support to replace the Micro Lidar.
If lidar calibration fails
Clean the calibration board and the lens. With the printer off, unplug and replug the toolhead USB-C cable following the Bambu Lab guide. Then start a print sliced with the latest Bambu Studio and calibrate the lidar again.
Check: Calibration finishes without an error.
If that does not fix it: Contact Bambu Lab support and attach the printer logs.
Nozzle height too low or too high
If it says the nozzle is too low, check whether it is badly worn or bent and replace it; if it looks fine, run the calibration to clear the alert. If it says the nozzle is too high, remove the filament residue stuck to the tip.
Check: After a restart and a new print, the alert does not return.
If that does not fix it: If you have changed the nozzle, recalibrate the lidar.
First layer inspection alerts
If it reports possible defects, look at the first layer and decide yourself whether to cancel: the alert is not severe enough to pause. With transparent, glittery or highly reflective filaments the laser measurement may not be reliable.
Check: You know whether the first layer is fine.
If that does not fix it: If alerts keep coming with no visible defects, clean the lens and recalibrate the lidar.
Lidar or toolhead board spare parts
If the Micro Lidar or the TH board must be replaced, ask Bambu Lab support to confirm the version: there are two lidar versions, and fitting a lidar and board that do not match can burn out the electronics.
Check: The spare part is the correct version.
If that does not fix it: Send support the logs and a photo of the lidar serial number QR code.
Prevention
- If you print ABS often, clean the lidar camera every 3-5 days.
- Recalibrate the lidar after changing the nozzle or the lidar itself.
- Keep the calibration board on the bed clean.
