Photon Mono M7 Pro or M7 Max: warnings about residue in the vat, not enough resin, or model fell off/incomplete

Guide based on the manufacturer's official documentation; usi3d has not yet verified it on a machine.

Technology: Resin · Brand: Anycubic · Symptoms: The printer shows an error code or message, The resin print does not stick to the build plate, The print sticks to the vat film (FEP) · Updated on 9 October 2026

Symptom

The Photon Mono M7 Pro or M7 Max stops or warns with «Residue detected», that there is not enough resin left in the vat, or «Print abnormality, model fell off the bottom» / «model may be incomplete». These warnings come from a force sensor that measures the platform pressure.

Likely causes, from most to least likely

  1. Residue: cured resin remains in the vat, there are small bumps on the release film, or the mechanical sensor is damaged.
  2. Not enough resin: the printer calculates that the vat holds less than 100 ml plus the resin the file needs.
  3. Model fell off or incomplete: the sensor measures no release force on the layer, because of exposure, resin or parameter, temperature or levelling problems.
  4. Cold room: below 20 °C the resin flows worse.
  5. The check is disabled on layers smaller than 15 × 15 mm, so very small parts are not monitored.

Checks to tell which one it is

  • Wearing nitrile gloves, check the bottom of the vat for cured pieces and the film for bumps.
  • Check the resin level without going over the MAX mark.
  • Run the exposure test with a sheet of A4 on the screen (no vat or platform) and check that the image matches the one on the control screen; do not look at the light directly.
  • Check levelling with a sheet of A4 on the left and right of the screen.

Before you start

Uncured resin irritates skin and eyes: wear nitrile gloves and safety glasses, ventilate the room and do not look at the UV light. Before taking anything apart or cleaning it, switch the printer off and unplug it, unless a step says otherwise. If in any doubt, stop and ask a professional.

Step-by-step fix

  1. «Residue detected»: clean the vat and check the film

Wearing gloves and in a ventilated place, clean the bottom of the vat and remove cured debris. If the film has small bumps, replace it.

Check: The print starts without the warning.

If that does not fix it: If it reappears with a clean vat, the mechanical sensor may be damaged: ask the shop or Anycubic support.

  2. Not enough resin: top up and measure again

Add resin without going over the MAX mark and press «Retest» to measure again. If the file needs more than the vat holds (1000 ml), it will not warn: pause around halfway through the print and top up.

Check: The measurement passes and the print starts.

If that does not fix it: If it warns often with enough resin, press «Ignore» and check in the monitoring screen whether resin detection and levelling detection read normal; if not, the sensor may be damaged.

  3. Model fell off: check exposure and parameters

If the test image does not match, record a video and contact the shop or support. If you use another brand's resin, test with Anycubic resin or ask the resin maker for settings; you can use the R_E_R_F test file on the USB drive. If nothing forms, raise the bottom exposure to 80 s; if only the base forms, raise the normal exposure.

Check: The test file forms on the platform.

If that does not fix it: Check temperature and levelling (next steps).

  4. Heat the vat if it is cold

Below 20 °C, enable vat heating in the printer menu, set the temperature and turn on automatic heating. After printing, do not touch the vat straight away: it can burn.

Check: The resin flows well and the part forms completely.

If that does not fix it: Check levelling (next step).

  5. Check levelling

Remove the vat and clean the platform. With a sheet of A4 over the left side of the screen, lower the platform with the levelling check and pull the paper: it should resist. Repeat on the right side. If it pulls out easily on either side, level manually following Anycubic's guide.

Check: The paper has the same resistance on both sides.

If that does not fix it: Contact the shop or Anycubic support with photos and video.

Prevention

  • Filter or clean the vat after a failed print so no cured debris remains.
  • Print above 20 °C or use vat heating.
  • Wear nitrile gloves and goggles and keep good ventilation when handling resin.
