Adventurer 5M: temperatures at 0 °C or negative, or errors E0002, E0005 or E0011
Guide based on the manufacturer's official documentation; usi3d has not yet verified it on a machine.
Technology: FDM · Brand: Flashforge · Symptoms: The printer shows an error code or message, Temperature error (MINTEMP, MAXTEMP, thermal runaway), The hotend or the bed does not heat · Updated on 9 October 2026
Symptom
The Adventurer 5M (or 5M Pro) shows the nozzle and bed at 0 °C, or the nozzle at a negative value and not heating, or it stops with «E0002 Communication with MCU interrupted!», «E0005 MCU: Unable to connect!» or «E0011 Host error. Please restart!».
Likely causes, from most to least likely
- A one-off firmware communication failure, which a restart fixes.
- The extruder connection cable has a poor contact or is damaged.
- The quick-swap nozzle is not seated properly or is damaged: with its thermocouple open, the nozzle temperature reads below the minimum (E0006).
- The extruder board is faulty.
- The mainboard is faulty.
Checks to tell which one it is
- Check the temperatures right after switching on: if nozzle and bed read 0, communication with the print head is failing; if only the nozzle reads negative or does not rise, suspect the nozzle or its cable.
- Note the error code if one appears (E0002, E0005, E0006 or E0011).
- Note whether the fault appears during printing, as E0002 and E0011 usually do, or at power-on, like E0005.
Before you start
Before taking anything apart, cleaning or adjusting it, switch the printer off and unplug it, unless a step says otherwise, and do not touch the nozzle, the heater block or the bed until they have cooled down. If in any doubt about electricity, heat or moving parts, stop and ask a professional.
Step-by-step fix
Restart
Switch the printer off, wait a few seconds and switch it on again. Then check the temperatures on the screen.
Check: The nozzle and bed show room temperature and heat up when preheating.
If that does not fix it: Reseat the nozzle (next step).
Remove and refit the nozzle
With the printer off and the nozzle cold, remove the quick-swap nozzle and refit it firmly. Switch on again.
Check: The nozzle temperature is normal and rises when preheating.
If that does not fix it: Check the extruder cable (next step).
Check the extruder cable
Switch off and unplug the printer. Open the top and rear covers of the extruder, check whether the extruder connection cable is damaged or badly seated, then unplug and reconnect it. Switch on again.
Check: Errors E0002, E0005 or E0011 do not return and the temperatures are normal.
If that does not fix it: If the nozzle still reads negative, replace it (next step); otherwise, export the logs (last step).
Replace the nozzle if it still reads negative
If the nozzle still does not heat or reads negative with the cable properly connected, replace the nozzle (its heating assembly): that is what Flashforge prescribes when the nozzle thermocouple is open.
Check: With the new nozzle, the temperature is normal.
If that does not fix it: Export the logs (next step).
Export the logs and ask for the spare part
Copy the printer logs to a USB drive and contact Flashforge support. If the nozzle and cable are fine, the extruder cable, the extruder board or the mainboard may need replacing, in that order.
Check: Support confirms which part to replace.
If that does not fix it: Replace the part support indicates, following their official videos.
Prevention
- Fit the quick-swap nozzle with the printer off and check that it is firmly seated.
- If you open the print head, firmly reseat the extruder cable before closing it.
