The K1 levels badly: the nozzle scrapes the bed in some areas and the layer is too high in others

Guide based on the manufacturer's official documentation; usi3d has not yet verified it on a machine.

Technology: FDM · Brand: Creality · Symptoms: Uneven first layer (thin and thick areas), Unlevel or warped bed, The printer shows an error code or message · Updated on 9 October 2026

Symptom

On the K1, K1C or K1 Max the first layer is not the same across the plate: in some areas the nozzle scrapes the surface and in others the line is too high or does not stick. Sometimes automatic leveling ends with a bed sensor error (for example 2521, 2522, 2524 or 2526) or, while leveling, the bed does not stop when it touches the nozzle.

Likely causes, from most to least likely

  1. The printer was not leveled again after a firmware update: this is the first cause Creality lists.
  2. Something disturbed the measurement: vibration or knocks on the table, someone touched the printer, or the bed cable pulled during leveling.
  3. There was filament residue on the nozzle or dirt on the plate while leveling.
  4. Z-axis problems (lead screw play, loose or missing screws in the tension block) or a damaged or warped build plate.
  5. A strain gauge (the bed pressure sensor) is damaged.
  6. On early K1 units shipped with firmware 1.2.9.5, the Z motor could skip steps during leveling.

Checks to tell which one it is

  • With the printer on the network, type its IP address into a browser and open the leveling data in its web interface: according to Creality, less than 3 mm between the highest and lowest point is normal.
  • If the mesh trend is consistent but the sum of the differences exceeds 5 mm, the problem is mechanical (Z axis); if one point does not fit with the others, suspect a strain gauge.
  • Watch the leveling: if the bed does not stop when it touches the nozzle and keeps moving, the strain gauge is not detecting the contact.
  • Check which firmware version is installed.

Before you start

Before taking anything apart, cleaning or adjusting it, switch the printer off and unplug it, unless a step says otherwise, and do not touch the nozzle, the heater block or the bed until they have cooled down. If in any doubt about electricity, heat or moving parts, stop and ask a professional.

Step-by-step fix

  1. Clean and repeat auto-leveling

Clear the plate and clean the plate and the nozzle tip. With the printer idle, go to Settings, open the self-check, tick only auto-leveling and start it. Keep the printer on a firm surface and do not touch it or move the table while it levels.

Check: The first layer comes out even across the whole plate.

If that does not fix it: Update the firmware (next step).

  2. Update the firmware and level again

Install the latest official firmware and repeat leveling. On early K1 units shipped with version 1.2.9.5, Creality says the Z motor could skip steps and that the update fixes it.

Check: After updating and leveling, the nozzle no longer scrapes the plate.

If that does not fix it: Check the leveling data (next step).

  3. Check the mesh in the web interface

Connect the printer to the network, type its IP into a browser and open the leveling data. Compare the highest point with the lowest and see whether any point clearly breaks the trend of the others.

Check: Less than 3 mm between the highest and lowest point is within the normal range, according to Creality.

If that does not fix it: If the trend is consistent but the sum of differences exceeds 5 mm, check the Z axis (next step); if a single point is off, suspect the strain gauge (last step).

  4. Check the Z-axis mechanics and the plate

Switch off and unplug the printer, remove the base cover and check that the Z lead screws have no play, that no screws are loose and none are missing from the Z-axis tension blocks (Creality gives this as an example of abnormal leveling). Also check that the build plate is not damaged or warped and that the bed cable is not taut.

Check: The Z axis moves without play or jerks and the mesh is consistent again after leveling.

If that does not fix it: If the plate is badly damaged or warped, or the axis keeps failing, contact Creality support.

  5. Replace the strain gauge

If the bed does not stop when it touches the nozzle during leveling, or the mesh keeps showing an abnormal point, the strain gauge (pressure sensor) is damaged. Creality supplies it as a spare part through its service team.

Check: With the new strain gauge, the bed stops when it touches the nozzle and the mesh is consistent.

If that does not fix it: Contact Creality support with the error code and a screenshot of the mesh.

Prevention

  • Always level again after a firmware update.
  • Level with a clean plate and nozzle and without touching the printer or the table during the process.
  • Place the printer on a firm surface without vibration and leave some slack in the bed cable.
